Senior Cambodian Official Joins 57th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Laos

PHNOM PENH, July 24, 2024 — Sok Chenda Sophea, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, is attending the 57th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Vientiane, Laos, from July 24 to 27. The meeting, hosted under the theme "ASEAN: Strengthening Connectivity and Resilience," was convened at the invitation of Salem Sarkom Masid, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Lao People's Democratic Republic.

A press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation on July 22 outlined the meeting's agenda, which includes discussions on advancing the ASEAN Community's development and exploring innovative strategies to enhance regional cooperation for greater connectivity and resilience.

In addition to the main sessions, the Deputy Prime Minister will participate in a separate session focused on Mekong Cooperation, involving foreign ministers from Japan, South Korea, and the United States.

While in Vientiane, Sok Chenda Sophea, alongside other ASEAN foreign ministers and the ASEAN Secretary-General, will meet with Sorn Siphandone, Prime Minister of Laos. He is also scheduled to engage in bilateral discussions with several counterparts to enhance collaborative efforts across both bilateral and multilateral platforms.
